Women's Tailoring Built Around Your Proportions

Ready-made clothing is graded from one standard body. If your bust, waist and hips do not follow that standard in the same ratio, something always fits and something does not: a jacket that closes at the bust but hangs loose at the waist, or trousers that fit the hip but gap at the back of the waistband. Tailoring starts from your own proportions instead.

What we look at

How it changes your garment

Shoulder width and slope

Sets where the jacket shoulder ends and whether the collar sits flat against the neck

Bust, waist and hip together

The relationship between the three decides how much shaping each garment needs, not any single number

Torso length

Decides where the waist of a dress or jacket should fall, so the waistline sits on you rather than above or below

Height

Changes the ideal jacket length, skirt hem and trouser break

Posture

A forward or upright stance changes how a jacket hangs front to back

Movement

Ease is placed where you need it: across the back for driving, through the seat for sitting, at the hem for walking

We never cut women’s clothing from a scaled-down men’s shape. Shaping through the bust, the placement of darts and seams, and the curve of the waist and hip are built into each garment from

Our Ladies Tailors Specialise in Complete Women’s Tailoring

Tailor-Made Suits for Women

A women’s tailored suit can be a two-piece with trousers or a skirt, or a three-piece with a matching waistcoat. Because the jacket and bottoms are cut for the same body at the same time, their proportions are planned together: jacket length against trouser rise, lapel width against shoulder width, and the waist of the jacket against the waistband beneath it. The same pattern-drafting approach behind our individually tailored suits applies to women’s suits, adjusted for women’s proportions.

Tailored Jackets and Blazers

A tailored jacket for women balances several relationships at once. The shoulder line sets the upper structure, shaping through the bust and waist creates the contour, and the jacket length decides how the torso relates to what is worn beneath it. Styles range from structured single-breasted blazers to softer, belted or cropped jackets, with your choice of lapel, pockets, lining and closure.

Tailored Trousers

Tailored trousers for women start with where you want the waistband to sit. Rise decides that, and it changes the whole proportion of the leg. From there, hip and seat ease decide how the trousers move when you sit and walk, and the leg shape, whether slim, straight, wide-leg or tapered, is cut to your height and the shoes you plan to wear.

Tailored Waistcoats

A women’s tailored waistcoat needs shaping at the bust and waist, an armhole that sits comfortably under a jacket, and a length that covers the trouser or skirt waistband cleanly. Worn alone it becomes a statement piece; worn under a jacket it completes a three-piece suit.

Skirts

Pencil, A-line and other skirt shapes depend on accurate waist and hip measurements, dart placement that follows your curve, and a hem length set to your height. A vent or slit is placed where it gives freedom to walk without breaking the line.

Dresses

A dress combines every fitting challenge in one garment: bust, waist, hip and torso length all have to agree in a single piece of cloth. We shape dresses through darts or princess seams depending on the design, and choose the fabric for how it drapes over that shape.

Shirts, Blouses and Other Garments

Shirts and blouses are tailored for bust ease and sleeve length so they sit neatly under a jacket. We also make specialist garments such as ladies’ shooting suits on request.

How Fit Changes From One Women's Garment to Another

Your body stays the same, but every garment asks something different of it. That is why each piece is measured and fitted for its own job.

Garment

What decides the fit

What the fitting checks

Jacket

Shoulder, bust, waist, back balance, length

Shoulder line, closure without pulling, clean back, sleeve fall

Trousers

Waist, rise, hip, seat, thigh, leg shape

Waistband position, seat comfort when sitting, leg line, hem at your heel height

Skirt

Waist, hip, dart placement, hem

Smooth line over the hip, no riding up when walking, hem level all round

Dress

Bust, waist, hip, torso length, drape

Waistline position, shaping at the bust, drape in movement

Waistcoat

Bust, waist, length, armhole

Front sits flat, length covers the waistband, comfort under a jacket

The bust is a good example. On a jacket, it decides how the front closes and how much shaping the cloth needs. On a dress, it has to connect smoothly to the waist in one continuous line. On a blouse, it needs enough ease to avoid gaping between buttons. Same measurement, three different decisions.

Creating a Coordinated Women's Suit and Separates

Garments that are measured separately still need to be designed together. Four relationships decide whether an outfit looks planned:

Relationship

What we balance

Jacket length and trouser rise

A cropped jacket usually pairs best with a higher rise; a longer jacket suits a mid rise and a cleaner leg

Jacket and skirt

The jacket hem and skirt length should divide your height in pleasing proportions rather than cutting it in half

Waistcoat, jacket and trousers

The waistcoat must cover the waistband and sit flat beneath the jacket’s closure

Blouse and jacket

Neckline, collar and sleeve length should show where you want them to at the jacket’s edges

Many clients commission one jacket with both trousers and a skirt in the same cloth, which gives two outfits from one suit. Choosing a few colours that combine easily lets a small tailored wardrobe cover far more occasions.

Choosing Ladies Fabric for Structure, Drape and Dubai's Climate

In women’s tailoring, fabric decides shape as much as comfort. A structured wool holds the line of a blazer; a fluid crepe lets a dress follow the body. Dubai adds another test: moving between outdoor heat and air-conditioned offices in the same day.

Garment

What the fabric must do

What we usually recommend

Jacket

Hold structure without heat or weight

Lightweight wools and wool blends; linen for relaxed summer jackets

Trousers

Move easily, recover from creasing, stay comfortable seated

Wool blends and fabrics with a little stretch for everyday wear

Skirt

Keep its shape while allowing a natural stride

Medium-weight wools and crepes

Dress

Drape well and stay opaque

Crepe, silk blends and fluid wools, lined where needed

Blouse

Breathe and stay opaque

Cotton, silk and fine blends

Our collection of fabrics for women’s tailored clothing lets you compare cloth by weight, drape and use. If you already own a fabric, bring it and your tailor will check it suits the garment before cutting.

How Our Ladies Works at Libas Legacy

1. Consultation

We talk about the garments you need, where you will wear them, the silhouettes you like and any deadline. Reference photos and existing clothes you love are welcome.

2. Measurements and Proportions

Your tailor measures for each garment and notes posture, shoulder slope and torso length. Please wear or bring the shoes you plan to wear, since heel height changes trouser and dress lengths.

3. Fabric and Design

You choose cloth and details for each piece, with advice on how they will work together.

4. Cutting and Making

Each garment is cut from your measurements and made in our workshop.

5. Fitting

You try your garments on before they are finished. Jackets, suits and dresses usually have two fittings; trousers and skirts usually one.

6. Refinement and Collection

Adjustments are made, the garments are checked against your approved design and pressed, and you collect them or arrange delivery. If a small fit issue appears once you start wearing them, bring them back and we will adjust them.

Tailoring for Work, Formal Events and Everyday Wear For Ladies

Work. Office wardrobes need garments that combine easily and survive frequent wear. Suits, separate jackets and trousers are the backbone, and our ideas for women’s office outfits show how they combine through the week.

Formal events. Evening dresses, dressier suits and tailored separates in richer cloths. Our guide to understanding formal wear for women explains what each level of formality usually calls for.

Everyday. Relaxed trousers, skirts and unstructured jackets in breathable fabrics, cut to fit as well as your formal pieces.

From Your First Fitting to Future Orders

Your measurements and fitting notes are kept on file for each type of garment you order. When you come back, we start from what we already know, check whether anything has changed and move straight to fabric and design. If your size has changed, we simply re-measure. Many clients start with a single jacket or pair of trousers and build their wardrobe over several orders.

New Garments or Alterations?

If a garment already exists and needs resizing or correction, altering an existing women’s garment is a different job from commissioning a new one. Our alteration team works in the same studio and handles skirt adjustments, evening dress alterations and abaya alterations, so you can bring new commissions and existing clothes to one place.

One of the best tailoring experiences I’ve had. The suit stitching was high quality, and it looked very elegant when I wore it. Totally worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I bring the shoes I plan to wear?

Yes. Trouser and dress lengths are set to your heel height, so bring the shoes, or a pair with a similar heel, to your measurements and fittings.

It helps. A blouse with a collar or fuller sleeves changes how the jacket sits at the neck and cuff, so wearing it at the fitting gives the most accurate result.

Yes. Ordering both in the same cloth gives you two outfits from one suit, and both are proportioned against the jacket.

Yes. A high rise changes where the waistband sits and how long the leg looks, and a wide leg needs its hem set carefully to your heel height so it falls cleanly.

Can a female team member take my measurements?

Let us know when you book and we will do our best to arrange it. Home appointments are also available for clients who prefer complete privacy.

Yes. We use it as a reference for fit and style, then cut the new garment for your body.

A deposit confirms your order and the balance is paid on collection. Amounts are confirmed with your quotation.
